Is there no end to lockdown misery we all cry? Still no hairdressers, no beauty salons, we have all had to make do with some very amateur efforts in those departments, including my friend who accidentally shaved off her left eyebrow with a bikini line trimmer! But maybe there is a little light at the end of a very dim tunnel with the announcement that shops can reopen from 15 June.
I will, of course, be opening my Deja boutique on the big day and I have a number of treats in store. First and foremost the fashion. I will have a full range of bright coloured linens, subtle silks and amazing cottons to tantalise you. In addition, I will have a small number of culinary treats on offer to tempt the palette – we have all become star bakers during lockdown if one is to explain the lack of flour and baking powder in the supermarkets, and my family is no exception.
No Prosecco to wash the treats down, unfortunately, as this has fallen victim to the COVID regulations – but do come and see me, one by one, of course, to say hello and to touch and feel as well as look at the latest fashions. I have had a great time with social media and have gained customers from far afield which has been amazing, but I cannot wait to see you all in person, though not all at the same time of course!
Just in case you have lost the ability to shop for clothes or wish to undertake a complete fashion revamp (here’s me hoping) I have put together some pointers as to how to put together a capsule wardrobe for summer 2020. These are items that can be mixed and matched to ensure you get maximum value from your spend.
Firstly start with a base colour – black or navy is ideal. I have chosen ankle grazer trousers in black bengaline, a sleeveless maxi dress in top quality jersey cotton, and a lace-trimmed cami.
Add neutrals, think light grey, white, baby pink, or even khaki which is big this year. Chose soft fabrics like silk, jersey cotton, or light wool.
Select spots or stripes – oversized shirts and tunics work well here. Or even better a beautifully cut shirt dress in linen or cotton.
Add a vibrant splash of colour – I have chosen bright orange and neon pink – wear them both together if you are feeling brave. Or if you want to be more subtle go for differing shades of green – a great mood-boosting colour. I have selected teal and apple. Either way, cool linen is really hot this season!
To complete the look – chose bold patterns. Florals look good but even better try abstracts. I love the black and grey maxi dress or the beautifully cut shirt dresses which are so versatile either as stand-alone or layering pieces.
And finally, add accessorises – beautifully patterned silk scarves to add a touch of luxury, a statement necklace (or two) and handbags – go for a tote bag or an oversized clutch, one of the looks of the season.
I will be keeping a close eye on the government regulations for retail and will be implementing social distancing measures. In a small shop such as mine, this will have to be a one in one out policy and there may be restrictions on trying garments on. Whatever happens, I cannot wait to reopen and welcome you all back to Deja! And of course, if you cannot make it to the shop, my online service will still be available.
